Zhanna Andreasian on the Scandalous Incident at John Kirakosyan School

The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports (MOESCS) has approached law enforcement agencies to obtain specific information regarding the incident that occurred at the John Kirakosyan school. This was announced by Minister Zhanna Andreasian during a conversation with reporters after a government meeting.

“As we were receiving alerts that a problematic situation had arisen from the perspective of children's rights and best interests during a special operation, we are now waiting for the law enforcement response to understand the complete picture. I have also spoken with my counterparts in law enforcement and suggested that we work together to understand the procedures and provide necessary support and consultation regarding how certain actions should be carried out in the presence of children,” said the minister.

According to her, everyone understands that law enforcement authorities must first be able to act, as the accusations being made are extremely serious. “We must do everything we can to support the discovery of all such issues in our schools, as we all understand that people hardly speak about such problems, or when they do, they remain unheard. Therefore, as the Ministry of Education, we place particular importance on preventing all such situations in our schools, but if they do occur, they must be revealed, and all necessary legal steps must be taken to the end. This does not mean that in the children's environment, one should not take into account how to organize any necessary actions,” she noted.

It is noteworthy that on October 10, the National Security Service conducted operations at John Kirakosyan School No. 20, and a staff member from the school was taken to the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia. The Investigative Committee reported that public criminal prosecution had been initiated against one of the staff members of Yerevan's John Kirakosyan school under Article 201, Part 3, Clauses 1 and 3 of the RA Criminal Code. The teacher is currently in custody.
