How Much Revenue the Cash-for-Military-Service Book Law Has Brought to the Budget: 'Hraparak'
The newspaper 'Hraparak' reports that the law authored by KYL member Hayk Sargsyan, which was adopted nearly a year ago, has brought only $1 million to the state budget. This refers to the so-called cash-for-military-service book law. Hayk Sargsyan refused to provide us with statistics on how many citizens have benefited from the law, claiming that such data is confidential, but he did say: 'I can say that one million dollars have been added to the budget thanks to me.'
As a reminder, with the amendment to the 'Military Service Law,' citizens who are 27 years old and have not served mandatory military service have been given the opportunity to avoid criminal liability by: 1. serving for two years, 2. serving for one year and paying 2.5 million drams to the state budget, 3. serving for six months and paying 5 million drams to the budget, 4. serving for one month and paying 8 million drams to the budget, or 5. paying 15 million drams to the state budget instead of military service. In other words, at least 25 individuals have benefited from the application of the law, but it is also possible that some have taken advantage of partial exemption clauses.
