Unity Around the Demands for the Resignation of the FFA President

Various fan movements from Armenian clubs are joining the demand for the resignation of FFA President Armen Melikbekyan. Several fan clubs from Armenian clubs have issued a joint statement regarding the current situation in Armenian football.

The statement has been signed by the ‘Alfa’ fan club of 'Ararat-Armenia', the ‘Sektor-18’ fan club of 'Pyunik', the ‘South-West Ultras’ fan club of 'Urarartu', and the ‘Black Eagles’ fan club of 'Shirak'.

“Several months ago, before the elections for the FFA president, we issued a joint statement claiming that if the current leadership was re-elected, Armenian football would not only fail to reach a new level but would continue its free fall. The vivid proof of this is the total failures recorded post-elections. The responsible parties for various age groups, youth football, the national team, and club football have been paralyzed, and some are intentionally obstructing their development.

Armenian football currently exists only thanks to private efforts. Premier League matches continue to be scheduled during working hours on weekdays, and there is a lack of healthy cooperation between the FFA and the clubs. Furthermore, fines for the use of pyrotechnics, which are a hallmark of fan culture, are being imposed illogically and without basis, in yet another attempt to suppress and limit the developing fan culture.

We were confident before, and we are even more confident now, that in such a situation, without change, Armenian football has no future. The fan movements of Armenian clubs unite in calling for the resignation of FFA President Armen Melikbekyan. They are also ready to join upcoming actions and protests,” the statement from the fan clubs reads.
