Ukraine Faces Harsh Winter Ahead: WSJ
The situation in Ukraine could worsen this upcoming winter amid a slowdown in Western arms supplies, reports The Wall Street Journal.
"With the limitations and delays in the supply of Western arms, Ukraine is expected to face a harsh winter. Ukrainian military forces, which are outnumbered and outarmed, are slowly but inevitably losing positions on the main eastern front," the publication states.
The journal notes that Russian weaponry exceeds Ukraine's air defense capabilities, with strikes leading to the shutdown of infrastructure facilities, and warns that the situation may "deteriorate" during the winter.
At the same time, the newspaper cites assessments from Ukrainian officials and military personnel stating that the West is providing "insufficient support" to Kyiv for any significant shift in the situation on the battlefield, despite U.S. President Joe Biden and other leaders expressing their intent to help Ukraine win the conflict.
Earlier, the newspaper reported that the Biden administration, fearing further escalation, had declined to endorse Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's "victory plan," which includes requests for more weapons and security guarantees to reach a conflict resolution on terms favorable to Ukraine.
