Ministry of Education Responds to Scandalous Incident at School No. 20

The Ministry of Education and Science has officially addressed the relevant authorities following a special operation conducted by law enforcement agencies at one of the public schools. The purpose of this inquiry is to clarify the legality of the actions taken from the perspective of the child's best interests.

“It is important that special operations carried out by law enforcement in the presence of children take into consideration their best interests and psychological characteristics. In this regard, the Ministry of Education and Science finds the reports regarding the special operation that took place at a school in Yerevan concerning, and urges relevant bodies to take these factors into account when conducting operations in educational institutions,” the statement read.

Additionally, the Ministry of Education and Science expressed its readiness to cooperate with all interested state bodies in the Republic of Armenia to enhance the level of security in educational institutions, including support for the lawful actions of law enforcement officers.

Earlier, the press secretary of the Yerevan mayor informed that the National Security Service was conducting operations at School No. 20 named after John Kirakosyan, and one staff member had been transferred to the Investigative Committee. A public criminal prosecution has been initiated against this staff member under the article for committing lewd acts, as reported by the press secretary of the Investigative Committee.

Gor Abrahamyan stated that the investigator made a decision to arrest the staff member and present them to the prosecuting body, which was executed. Currently, investigative actions are being conducted with that individual. No further information has been released in accordance with the interests of the preliminary investigation.
