Canada's Foreign Minister Advocates for a Woman to Lead the UN
Canada's Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly believes that the next Secretary-General of the United Nations should be a woman, stating that the absence of women in this role throughout the organization's existence is unacceptable.
“For nearly 80 years, no woman has occupied the position of Secretary-General, and that is unacceptable,” Joly said during her speech at the UN General Assembly in New York during the political debate of the 79th session.
She emphasized that “the next leader of this great institution must be a woman.”
