Bayramov on 'Ending Armed Conflict'

During the general discussions of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jayhun Bayramov attributed the merit of 'ending the armed conflict with Armenia' to Baku. Bayramov's statements were reported by Azerbaijani media.

According to Bayramov, 'The cessation of armed conflict with Armenia and the restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity have created entirely new conditions in the South Caucasus. For the first time in decades, stability has been achieved in the region, and de facto peace has been established.'

'Azerbaijan has demonstrated political wisdom and will by offering peace to Armenia on equal terms, in accordance with the norms and principles of international law, based on mutual recognition and respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Over the past year, Azerbaijan and Armenia have made significant progress in the settlement process through direct bilateral negotiations, particularly in preparing a bilateral agreement, establishing state border demarcation and delimitation, as well as developing measures to build trust,' he stated.

Unfortunately, the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister did not mention his country’s brutal military aggression against the Republics of Artsakh and Armenia, the forced displacement of over 100,000 Artsakh Armenians, the destruction of Armenian historical and cultural monuments, or the complete distortion of their origin narratives, as well as the brutal killings of Armenian civilians and soldiers after the aggression of 2020, the occupation of Armenia's sovereign territory, unilateral concessions by Armenia, and many other issues.
