Contract Soldier Accidentally Shoots Another Soldier in the Head, Investigative Committee Provides Details
On September 15, 2024, the third military investigative unit of the Military Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee received a report from the SIS of the RA Ministry of Defense about a contract soldier sustaining a gunshot wound.
Following the incident, a criminal case was initiated under Article 532, Part 2, Clause 1 of the RA Criminal Code within the third military investigative unit. This information was shared by the RA Investigative Committee, which also indicated that the preliminary investigation had been assigned to a dedicated investigative team, which carried out numerous urgent investigative actions.
Specifically, the scene was inspected, necessary traces and items were seized, examinations were appointed, and several individuals were interrogated.
According to the available information, on September 15, around 18:45, one of the contract soldiers at a military unit of the RA Ministry of Defense accidentally discharged a shot from his firearm while loading it, causing another contract soldier to suffer a gunshot wound to the back of the head. The injured soldier was transported to a hospital.
Information received from the medical facility indicates that the soldier has undergone surgery and is currently not in life-threatening condition. The investigation is ongoing, and measures are being taken to fully clarify the circumstances of the case.
Reports published by some mass media outlets that two contract soldiers shot at each other at a combat position do not correspond to reality.
