Russian Lawmaker Calls for Nuclear Explosion 'Somewhere'

A Russian lawmaker has suggested that it would be beneficial for Russia to conduct nuclear weapons tests at one of its test sites, to remind the world of the terrifying threat that could arise if the country feels its sovereignty is at risk. Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma, made the comments on his social media page in response to concerns voiced from abroad regarding the potential for Ukraine to carry out long-range missile strikes deep within Russian territory with U.S. support.

“We should not relax. There needs to be a nuclear explosion organized somewhere, at some testing ground. Nuclear tests are currently banned here, but perhaps people should see what it actually leads to; it’s worth listening,” Kolesnik stated.

According to the lawmaker, if Russia were to lift its moratorium on nuclear tests, “humanity would think again.” Last Thursday, Vladimir Putin stated that the Kyiv regime would only be able to utilize Western long-range weapons with the assistance of NATO troops, as Ukrainians do not have the necessary qualifications for such actions. The state's leader indicated that such a development would mean a direct confrontation between the U.S., NATO, and European countries with Russia.
