The Battle for Arushanyan's Position Has Begun: Who is Competing for His Chair?
The circle around Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan is tightening, exciting the ruling party MP and Goris resident Armen Khachatryan. This is reported by 'Hraparak'.
According to the newspaper's sources, Khachatryan is already preparing for the next local self-government elections in Goris, which are scheduled for the autumn of 2026, following the parliamentary elections.
"He has stated among his government partners that if Arush is indeed neutralized, he has every chance of becoming the next mayor of Goris. Moreover, he has candidly admitted that he has reached out to Nikol Pashinyan (the Prime Minister of Armenia), although he has not yet received a 'go-ahead' but also hasn't been rejected," notes the article.
It is mentioned that in the governmental agenda, the unification project of Goris and Tegh communities is scheduled for autumn 2025, meaning that the next mayor of Goris will effectively be the leader of nearly half of Syunik.
Recall that the criminal case in which Arushanyan has been found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment relates to abuse of official position, usurpation of power, and intentionally causing harm to another person's health.
