Will the Sotk Gold Open-Pit Mine Reopen? Are Residents of Vardenis Being Deceived?

On May 30, 2023, the operation of the Sotk gold open-pit mine was halted due to gunfire from Azerbaijan starting from April 14. The mine’s staff have repeatedly attempted to resume their duties, but their efforts have been obstructed by shootings from firearms of various calibers. Following this, it became impossible to continue work at the Sotk open-pit mine, leading to the decision to cease its operations. This information was reported by the daily newspaper "Zhoghovurd."

ArmLur.am has received reports from many residents of Vardenis claiming that the Sotk gold open-pit mine will soon reopen. To clarify whether the rumors about the mine reopening are true, ArmLur.am contacted the Public Relations and Social Policy Manager of GeoPromining Gold, Rouzanna Grigoryan.

In an interview with ArmLur.am, Rouzanna Grigoryan stated that she does not have any such information. This implies that some circles are misleading the residents of Vardenis.
