VIDEO: Insults, Arrests - Tense Situation on Yerevan-Ararat Highway
Residents of Kasakh village closed the Yerevan-Ararat highway for about an hour in protest. They expressed their discontent over the decision made by the head of the Nairi community, Norair Sargsyan, during a municipal council meeting to repeal a resolution that excluded the right to construction permits on land designated for the residents.
Police and the administrative head of Kasakh village came to negotiate with the protesters, assuring them that discussions had already taken place with the head of the Nairi community and the Governor of Kotayk region, and that the issue would be resolved soon.
Later, a scuffle broke out between the protesters and the police, with insults exchanged on both sides. Police detained several residents and reopened the road. When asked by a journalist why the participants of the protest were being detained, the police responded that the latter were infringing on the rights of other citizens.
