Child Burial Discovered from the 4th Millennium BC at Masis Hill
For seven days, an Armenian-American expedition has been excavating the Neolithic settlement at Masis Hill. We already have an exceptional finding. The head of the expedition, Professor Pavel Avetisyan, reported this on his page.
He specifically mentioned, “A child’s burial has been uncovered beneath a wall of a structure. The building dates back to the first quarter of the 6th millennium BC. This means the burial either belongs to the same period or is even older. To date, we have two burials in Armenia that are attributed to this era with precise context and dating—one from Aknashen and the other from Masis Hill.
The DNA analyses of this new burial will contribute to filling our understanding of the Neolithic communities inhabited in areas north of the Araks River. As I write these lines, my colleagues are continuing to clean the skeleton of the “little one.” This is a matter of extraordinary significance.
