Man Who Killed Police Officer Provides Confession: Investigation Committee

As a result of the joint actions of investigators from the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia and officers of the Regional Department of the Police in Armavir, a case has been uncovered involving the murder of one police officer and attempted murder of four others.

During the investigation initiated under Article 155, Part 2, Points 1 and 7, Article 44-155, Part 2, Points 1 and 7, and Article 335, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, significant circumstances for the investigation have been clarified, including the identity of the person suspected of committing the crime, who is a resident of Nalbandyan village in Armavir.

In particular, it has been established that on September 7, 2024, operational information was received indicating that the suspect was illegally in possession of firearms in a car registered under his brother's name, a "VAZ 210740 I" model.

With the aim of verifying this information, a group of officers from the Regional Police Department of Armavir traveled to Nalbandyan village. Upon noticing the police, the suspect unexpectedly opened fire with an automatic firearm in the direction of the officers, resulting in two police officers sustaining gunshot wounds, while the shooter fled the scene taking the firearm with him.

The wounded officers were immediately transported to a medical center, where one of them later died from the injuries sustained. Scene examination was conducted, revealing a "Lada" vehicle with bullet holes in the windshield, and cartridges were found inside the car. The police officers were recognized as victims and were interrogated. Expertise has been appointed.

As a result of urgent actions taken, hours after the incident, the suspected perpetrator was arrested and provided confession statements. The weapon used in the crime, an "AK-74" type automatic rifle loaded with 10 cartridges, was also found and seized. The preliminary investigation continues, and evidential and procedural actions are underway. Measures are being taken to determine the source of the firearm acquisition. Instructions have been issued to the relevant police divisions.
