The International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) has adopted a resolution regarding Nagorno-Karabakh. Genocide scholar Suren Manukyan announced this on his Facebook page.

“The resolution was adopted by the International Association of Genocide Scholars, the largest and most prestigious organization studying genocides, with nearly 700 members. It declares the following:

From December 2022 to September 2023, the blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh, including the closure of the Lachin corridor, is characterized as the creation of living conditions that lead to the physical destruction of ethnic Armenians or cause physical harm to the local Armenian population, which are considered genocidal acts under the UN Genocide Convention.
  2. For the period of September to October 2023, the forcible displacement of ethnic Armenians, through the blockade and bombardment, is an act of ethnic cleansing and a crime against humanity that involves forced transportation and displacement.
  3. The bombardment of the civilian population is a violation of international humanitarian law.
  4. The torture and killing of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians is a violation of international humanitarian law.
