Hot Session Anticipated in Yerevan Council: Powers to Be Revoked
The Yerevan Council's "Civil Contract" faction aims to prematurely terminate the powers of the head of the "National Progress" faction, Grigor Yeritsyan, along with members Anush Khudaverdyan and Anush Ginosyan from the "Public Voice" faction. These proposals are included in the agenda for the council's regular session on September 10.
The justification states that Grigor Yeritsyan, who is a member of the Permanent Commission on Legal Issues, has only attended one of the seven commission meetings, and during the second session of the fifth convocation of the council, he again participated in just one of five meetings. In the case of Anush Khudaverdyan and Anush Ginosyan, it is noted that they were absent from more than half of the votes in council sessions.
Grigor Yeritsyan commented on this agenda item on his Facebook page, stating that "this is another attempt by Avinyan to rid himself of opposition voices and enact political reprisals, creating a dangerous precedent, as no power in Armenia's newly independent history has stripped any opposition faction leader of their mandate."
It is worth noting that in April 2024, members of the "National Progress" faction, former Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan, along with Narine Hayrapetyan and Sona Aghekyan from the "Mother Armenia" faction, were stripped of their council mandates.
