The Rector of Brusov University Dismisses 59 Employees
Since his appointment as the rector of the State University after Valery Brusov, Davit Gyurjinyan has dismissed 59 employees. This was stated in an interview with 'Hraparak' by the university's former pro-rector, Tsolak Akopyan. According to him, nearly 40 of those dismissed were lecturers.
"I cannot say now whether he has been able to find replacements. Even if they have been found, they are not professional lecturers. For example, last year Gyurjinyan simply dismissed the best specialists in the Armenian language while simultaneously becoming the head of the Armenian Studies department. That is, to this day he is both the rector of the university and the head of the department, which he has no right to do," said Akopyan.
He added that after becoming head of the department, Gyurjinyan simply did not give several experienced lecturers any hours. Akopyan emphasized that when the rector dismisses a lecturer, he raises no professional or disciplinary issues, with his reasoning being that the contract has expired, and the rector does not sign a new contract.
"This is how he resolves the issue. If in the case of the state university the question is only political, and lecturers are dismissed for their political views, in the case of Brusov, both political views are the reason, and it is also personal revenge. People are being dismissed for having criticized him regarding the illegal appointment process, or, for instance, those who did not elect him as head of the department seven years ago," said the former pro-rector.
It is noted that Davit Gyurjinyan was elected rector of Brusov University in March 2024.
