Changes in Telegram Following Durov's Arrest
Telegram has started monitoring personal chats in France following the arrest of the platform's founder, Pavel Durov, and the charges brought against him. This information comes from a post on Telegram's website.
According to a preserved copy of the Frequently Asked Questions page, the section regarding illegal content previously stated that all Telegram chats are private for their participants, and the platform "does not process any inquiries related to them."
The updated page mentions that all applications of Telegram have a "Report" button, allowing users to flag illegal content for the attention of moderators.
Additionally, an email address is provided in this section for users to submit complaints.
It is worth recalling that Pavel Durov was arrested at Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport on August 24. In France, Durov is suspected of 10 offenses and criminal activities, facing up to 10 years in prison.
On August 28, Durov was released on a €5 million bail. He has been prohibited from leaving French territory and is required to report to the police twice a week.
