The State Revenue Committee Uncovers Smuggling Case of Diamonds Imported by Air
The State Revenue Committee of Armenia has revealed a smuggling case involving the air importation of diamonds. This information was reported by the Committee's press service.
It was noted that customs officials at Zvartnots Airport monitored a citizen arriving on the Sharjah-Yerevan flight and his luggage. As a result of customs inspection (visual inspection), four yellow bracelets weighing 31 grams made of gold-like metal were found in the citizen's luggage, along with 239 certificates intended for diamond stones.
“During the customs inspection of the individual, 37 polyethylene bags filled with transparent stones resembling diamonds, with a total weight of 246 grams, were also discovered,” the statement read.
According to information available in the Armenian State Revenue Committee's database, if these transparent stones are processed natural diamonds, their value could exceed 8,000,000 AMD. This means that the customs value of the transparent stones exceeds the 8 million AMD limit established by Article 292 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, which pertains to the smuggling of cultural values and strategically important raw materials.
A protocol regarding the smuggling incident has been drawn up and transferred to the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
