Customs Committee Reveals Smuggling Case Involving Diamond Imports by Air
The Armenian State Revenue Committee has uncovered a smuggling case involving the import of diamonds by air. The information has been reported by the Committee's press service.
It is noted that at Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport, customs officials were monitoring a citizen arriving on the Sharm El Sheikh-Yerevan flight and their luggage.
As a result of customs inspection (visual examination), four yellow bracelets weighing 31 grams each, made of a gold-like metal and equipped with settings for precious stones, as well as 239 certificates intended for diamond stones, were found in the citizen's luggage.
According to the report, during the individual's customs inspection, 37 polyethylene bags filled with transparent stones resembling diamonds, with a total weight of 246 grams, were also discovered.
According to information available in the Armenian State Revenue Committee’s database, if the transparent stones are processed natural diamonds, their value may exceed 8,000,000 AMD. This means that the customs value of the transparent stones exceeds the 8 million AMD threshold set by Article 292 of the Armenian Criminal Code (smuggling of cultural valuables and strategically important raw materials).
In connection with this incident, a customs violation report has been prepared and transferred to the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
