Reasons Behind the Emergency Shutdown of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant Revealed
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Sona Harutyunyan, stated that on August 30, at around 21:55, the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant was disconnected from the energy system in emergency shutdown mode.
The cause of the shutdown was a lightning strike, which prompted the plant's safety systems to bring the facility into safe shutdown mode. The safety systems are highly sensitive and react to any situation.
Currently, the staff is engaged in the plant's restart operations. This further demonstrates that the extensive modernization efforts undertaken in recent years, including enhancements to safety systems, have been effective and yielded the expected results.
