Russian People's Artist Leonid Remnev Dies During Performance
Popular artist and actor of the Nizhny Novgorod Youth Theatre, Leonid Remnev, has died during a performance, as reported on the regional department's page of the Union of Theatre Workers on the social network "VKontakte."
"Sad news: yesterday, People's Artist of Russia Leonid Remnev passed away... During the performance of 'Vasa', Leonid Yakovlevich felt unwell, and the ambulance that arrived at the theater could not save him," the report states.
Remnev was playing the role of Sergey Zheleznoy, the husband of the main heroine Vasa. The Nizhny Novgorod Youth Theatre stated that Remnev was 78 years old.
"Since 1972, he has worked in Gorky and later in Nizhny Novgorod's Youth Theatre, dedicating 52 years of his life to the stage. Throughout his acting career, he has played more than 100 roles in classical Russian and foreign repertoires as well as modern playwrights' plays," the theatre noted.
It is mentioned that Leonid Remnev was a laureate of the Sobolchikov-Samarin award of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the Union of Theatre Workers of the Russian Federation, a double laureate of the Nizhny Novgorod prize, a nominee for the national theatre award "Golden Mask," and a laureate of the "Pushkin Prize."
