VIDEO: President Vladimir Putin Kisses the Quran During Visit to New Mosque in Grozny
President Vladimir Putin of Russia kissed the Quran during his visit to the new Isa Prophet Mosque in Grozny. It is noteworthy that this was Putin's first visit to Chechnya in 13 years.
During his visit to the capital of the republic, he met with Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and spiritual leader Salah Mezhiev at the newly constructed mosque. Kadyrov and Mezhiev presented the Russian leader with the Chechen honorary citizenship badge.
As a gift to the mosque, Putin presented a handcrafted Quran. Salah Mezhiev read a passage from it, following which Putin kissed the Quran. He also remarked that the mosque, built in Uzbek style, is very beautiful.
Additionally, Putin expressed gratitude to the Chechen mufti for his efforts towards promoting interethnic peace in Russia, according to RIA Novosti.
It is worth mentioning that a video was circulating online yesterday showing President Putin visiting an Orthodox church in Baku during an official visit to Azerbaijan. A notable detail was that Ilham Aliyev, alongside him, also lit a candle in the Orthodox church.
