A bus filled with Shia pilgrims traveling from Pakistan to Iraq for the Arbaeen ceremonies has overturned in Iran, resulting in casualties. This information was reported by Iran's state television.

At least 28 people have died and 23 have been injured in the accident. The incident occurred on the Dehshir-Taft highway near Yazd province. The condition of 14 of the injured individuals is reported to be critical.

The bus was carrying 53 Pakistani pilgrims, with 11 female and 17 male fatalities reported. Colonel Haji Dehabadi, the police chief of Yazd, stated that preliminary reports suggest the accident was caused by a malfunction in the bus's engine.

The Arbaeen ceremony commemorates the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, who was killed along with his 72 companions in an unequal battle against the army of Caliph Yazid. This year's Arbaeen observance will take place on August 25.
