What Advantages Will the New Road from Georgia to Armenia Provide?

Georgia is beginning the construction of a new road that will connect Armenia to the European highway. The Georgian government has initiated a large-scale infrastructure project to build a new four-lane highway from Rustavi to Sadakhlo, which will link Armenia to the international E60 highway.

It has been noted that the Ministry of Economy has already instructed to acquire land from owners in the Marneuli region for these purposes. The project, estimated at 250 million euros, is financed by the European Investment Bank as part of a credit agreement for the development of the East-West international road.

The new route, approximately 30 kilometers long, will run parallel to the existing road and will include 11 bridges. This construction is of strategic importance not only for Georgia but also for Armenia.

The new road will provide Armenia with:
1. Direct access to the international E60 highway,
2. An opportunity to indirectly become part of the European East-West international highway project,
3. A solid transportation corridor through Georgian territory.

The significance of this project for both countries was underscored in 2021 by Georgia's Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Irakli Karseladze, who described it as a breakthrough for both Georgia and Armenia.
