Details: Death of Brazilian Passenger at Zvartnots Airport

Reports have surfaced stating that a passenger arriving in Armenia from Brazil was approached by customs officials at Zvartnots Airport regarding a bottle in his possession. When inquired about its contents, the Brazilian reportedly replied that it was wine. Instead of checking the contents of the bottle, customs officials allegedly forced the Brazilian to drink from it, after which his health rapidly deteriorated. Minutes later, he passed away.

The State Revenue Committee informed Tert.am that the information circulating in the media claiming that customs officials forced the individual to drink from the bottle is not true. The investigation into the incident is ongoing at the Investigative Committee of Armenia, and the State Revenue Committee is not authorized to provide further details regarding the case.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported to Tert.am that on August 8, a notification was received by the linear division of Zvartnots Airport indicating that an individual diagnosed with cardiac and respiratory failure was transported by an ambulance to a medical center, where he subsequently died.

The Investigative Committee also shared that an investigation is being conducted in relation to the incident, and forensic examinations have been appointed for the body as well as for the substances found with the individual.
