Hakan Fidan and Antony Blinken Have a Grim Phone Call
The Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has held a phone call with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. This was reported by the official representative of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oncu Keceli.
According to the Turkish official, the conversation, which took place at the request of the U.S. side, addressed the negotiation process between Israel and Hamas, as well as the escalating tension in the region. “The martyrdom of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Haniyeh and the ongoing massacre of Palestinians once again demonstrate that Israel is not committed to peace,” Keceli stated.
From the Turkish perspective, Hamas has previously shown a constructive stance regarding the ceasefire issue. Hakan Fidan indicated that pressure must be applied to Israel to achieve a permanent ceasefire.
“The growing tensions in the region are a cause for concern... Israel must refrain from provocative actions that could lead to the further escalation of the conflict,” the statement added.
