A Magnetic Storm Strikes Earth
On August 11, a G1 class (weak) magnetic storm began on Earth, as reported by Mikhail Leus, a leading expert at the Russian 'Phobos' center, on his Telegram channel.
The magnetic storm, expected to last three days, commenced at 18:09 Yerevan time. Leus added that by Sunday morning, disturbances recorded in the geomagnetic field were approaching the K index threshold of five units, the level characteristic of a weak magnetic storm. However, this observation occurred after midday.
Leus also noted that it is impossible to predict when the magnetic storm will weaken, intensify, or conclude.
Previously, on August 5, a significant X-class flare was recorded on the Sun. Additional M1.0, M1.2/SF, M6.1/1N, and M1.7 flares were also noted. Solar flares often accompany solar plasma ejections, which, upon reaching Earth, can trigger magnetic storms and disrupt radio communications. They can also create beautiful auroras.
