Ukraine Asks Mexico to Arrest Putin
Ukraine has asked Mexico to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin if he decides to travel to Mexico for President Claudia Sheinbaum's inauguration. This was reported on August 8 by the Ukrainian Embassy in Mexico, as per korrespondent.net.
Ukrainian diplomats expressed hope that the Mexican government understands that “Vladimir Putin is a war criminal” and that an arrest warrant has been issued by the International Criminal Court for his suspected involvement in the abduction of Ukrainian children and their forced transfer to Russia, a jurisdiction recognized by Mexico.
“We believe that the Mexican government will comply with international arrest warrants in any case,” the letter stated.
It is worth noting that on August 7, Mexico invited Putin to the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected president.
In 2023, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Putin, accusing him of the illegal deportation of hundreds of children from Ukraine, meaning the Russian president could be arrested in all countries that have ratified the Rome Statute.
