Death Toll from Unrest in Bangladesh Reaches 560

At least 560 people have died due to protests, unrest, and clashes that have occurred in Bangladesh over the past few weeks, according to TASS. Reportedly, local media indicates that during the three days following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation, as of the evening of August 7, the number of confirmed deaths reached 232. Previously, from July 16 to August 4, 328 people were killed in the clashes.

Students in Bangladesh began protests in July, demanding the abolition of quota systems for government jobs. The demonstrations later evolved into a broader anti-government movement, calling for the Prime Minister's resignation. Sheikh Hasina, who has governed the country for the past 15 years, has resigned and, according to various reports, has fled to India.

A temporary government has been appointed in Bangladesh, headed by the 84-year-old Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. After receiving treatment in France, he returned to his homeland on August 8 and will assume office. The temporary government is tasked with organizing new elections.
