Warning: New Method of Money Fraud Discovered in Yerevan

A new method of fraud involving money theft has been reported in Yerevan recently. Unknown individuals have been making phone calls to city residents, claiming that a relative living abroad has supposedly been involved in an accident or has allegedly hit a person with a vehicle, and urgent funds are needed for medical treatment.

Following these calls, individuals have visited the homes of the victims and taken money from them under false pretenses. According to reports received by the police, citizens have been defrauded of amounts ranging from $16,000 to $30,000.

Since July 27, there have been 28 recorded incidents of fraud in Yerevan using this method. The Ministry of Internal Affairs warns and urges the public not to trust information received from strangers and to verify its authenticity with friends or family.
