Suspect in Attempted Murder Case in Vedi Community Council Member: Details
The 26-year-old suspect in the attempted murder case in the town of Vedi is A. Karapetyan, a member of the Vedi enlarged community council and a close associate of Vedi community leader Garik Sargsyan. Investigators have discovered two firearms at his residence, which have been confiscated for further investigation, according to shamshyan.com.
Previously, the Investigative Committee of Armenia reported details of the incident that occurred on August 4 at a local bar in the town of Vedi, where an attempted murder took place.
As a result of investigative actions, factual data collected revealed that on August 4, 2024, around 00:30, a 32-year-old resident of Ararat province was at a bar in P’okr Vedi to celebrate his cousin's birthday. A dispute arose between him and his acquaintances on one side, and friends of the 32-year-old man on the other.
Following that, at the invitation of one of the acquaintances, a group including a 26-year-old resident of the same province arrived at the bar. Being aware that he was heading to the scene of a conflict, he displayed a blatant disregard for legal and moral norms and exhibited a determination to punish those who upset his close acquaintance with a weapon.
During the argument, the 26-year-old escalated the situation, and with the intent to unlawfully take the life of the 32-year-old man, fired once from his illegal weapon—a pneumatic pistol—into the chest area of the victim, causing him to fall. The 26-year-old, along with others involved, fled the scene of the crime. However, due to circumstances beyond his control, he could not complete the crime; the 32-year-old was transferred to Erbuni Medical Center, where medical staff managed to save his life.
The police have been tasked with locating the 26-year-old suspect and presenting him to the prosecuting authority. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
