INCREDIBLE IMAGES: Etna Erupts Again in Sicily
After the eruption of Mount Etna, a column of smoke has risen several kilometers high, and a dense cloud of ash has covered cities and villages. The Etna volcano in Sicily erupted again yesterday, with lava gushing from the Voragine crater, which has flowed downwards.
The column of smoke disrupted operations at Catania Airport, located at the foot of the volcano. Numerous flights have been canceled or redirected to other airports. Ash has covered homes and roads. The National Institute of Geophysics has declared a 'red' danger level.
This summer, the volcano, which has more than 200 craters, has erupted several times. Despite Etna's activity, lava has not reached nearby settlements since the early 19th century. Etna is the most active volcano in Europe, covering an area of 1,200 square kilometers, nearly 2.5 times larger than its nearest 'rival,' Vesuvius.
