VIDEO. State of Emergency Declared Due to Flooding in Buryatia
Three districts in Buryatia have been affected by flooding, and a state of emergency has been declared regionally, according to Buryatia’s head, Alexey Tsydenov.
"A regional state of emergency has been declared as the districts of Tarbagatay, Zaygraevsky, and Mukhorshibirski have been directly affected by the flood," Tsydenov wrote on his Telegram channel.
On Saturday evening, the dam of the Khongoloy reservoir in the Mukhorshibirski district began to overflow. Authorities report that five settlements are at risk, particularly the village of Khongoloy. Temporary shelters have been prepared in the area, and the population is being evacuated.
"The distance from the breach in the dam to the nearest residential area is approximately 6 kilometers," stated a message from the regional government.
Bridges over the Tugnui, Suhara, and Khongoloyka rivers have been damaged in three sections. Recovery work is ongoing. According to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation in Buryatia, traffic of all types has been blocked on the highway due to rising water in the area of the village of Khongoloy in the Mukhorshibirski district.
