Shooting Incident in Arinj: Arrests Made and Injuries Reported

On July 29 at 19:10, the police received a report at the Kotayk regional operational management center regarding gunfire from a room in the village of Arinj.

At 19:40, the Mikhailyan Surgical Institute reported that a 29-year-old resident of Arinj had been admitted with a gunshot wound. Shortly after, a similar report came from the St. Gregory the Illuminator Medical Center, where an ambulance team was transporting a 24-year-old resident of Arinj with a gunshot injury.

An operational group was dispatched to the scene following the emergency call. Preliminary investigations revealed that at 16:30 on Mashtots Street in the village, a dispute over personal matters occurred between a 28-year-old resident and the 29-year-old patient, during which the latter fired shots from a gas pistol from his "Ford" car, resulting in a gunshot wound to the 24-year-old brother of the 28-year-old.

In the ensuing scuffle, the 28-year-old fired shots with a pistol, injuring the 29-year-old fellow villager. However, measures undertaken revealed that the 29-year-old had been shot by his 48-year-old father, a resident of Arinj, with an illegally possessed "Saiga" type firearm.

In the early hours of July 30, at 1:00 AM, the father was arrested and taken to the Kotayk police department, after which documentation was prepared and submitted to the Abovyan investigative division, where a criminal case was initiated based on several articles of the Armenian Criminal Code.

During the procedural actions, three "Saiga" type firearms were discovered in the backyard of the 48-year-old man's home. The man stated that he had used one of them to shoot and injure the 29-year-old villager. Both the 48-year-old man and his 28-year-old son were arrested and taken to a detention facility. The investigation is ongoing to ascertain the circumstances.
