Israel Calls on NATO to Expel Turkey Amid Erdogan's Threats
Israel's Foreign Minister Israel Katz has called for NATO to exclude Turkey after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened the Jewish state with war, The Times of Israel reports.
“In light of Turkish President Erdogan’s threats to conquer Israel, as well as his dangerous rhetoric, Foreign Minister Israel Katz has instructed diplomats to urgently begin working with all NATO members, calling for condemnation of Turkey and demanding its removal from the regional alliance,” the publication states.
On July 28, Erdogan threatened to send Turkish troops into Israel, stating, “Just as we entered Nagorno-Karabakh, just as we entered Libya, we will do the same with them (Israel),” during an appearance on local television.
This announcement later escalated into a series of accusations and insults. Katz compared Erdogan to Saddam Hussein. Erdogan, for his part, claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is destined for Hitler's fate.
Erdogan has previously criticized Israel repeatedly for its actions in the Gaza Strip, which have caused significant damage to the enclave's civilian infrastructure.
