VIDEO: Another Dam Breach in Russia, Injuries and Missing Reported

Due to a temporary collapse in the White Sea-Baltic Canal in Karelia, one person has died, reported the regional committee for public safety and welfare. According to the Telegram channel, the deceased is the driver of an excavator who was working in the flooding zone. “He was swept away by the powerful flow of water along with his equipment,” the channel notes.

According to the committee, 9 people have been injured as a result of the incident. Seven others, including three children, have been rescued. “The fate of two women remains unknown,” the statement said.

On the morning of July 29, the head of Karelia, Arthur Parfenchikov, reported that a temporary bridge installed during reconstruction had collapsed between the 10th and 11th connecting devices of the Belomorsk-Baltic Canal in the republic. The Ministry of Emergency Situations is conducting search and rescue operations in the accident area. The agency reported that six people went missing after the dam breach. Later, rescuers found two children and two adults alive and handed them over to medical personnel. Search efforts continue for the remaining two missing individuals.
