Israel's Retaliatory Strikes on Lebanon Could Destabilize the Situation Across the Middle East
Israel's retaliatory strikes on Lebanese territory could destabilize the situation across the entire Middle East. This warning was issued by Norway's Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, as reported by his ministry.
“The last 24 hours have once again shown how fragile and serious the situation is in the Middle East. I am deeply concerned about the developments in the region. The escalation of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah could be pivotal in this confrontation,” stated the minister.
“Currently, the escalation or retaliatory strikes could have repercussions for the security situation across the entire Middle East,” he added, urging all participants in the confrontation, regional leaders, as well as allies of Israel and Hezbollah to do everything possible to exercise restraint and prevent the situation from escalating into a major regional war.
Eide emphasized that the “primary and fundamental” issue is the immediate cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip and the establishment of a ceasefire regime. “A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas would help reduce tensions throughout the region. I reiterate my call to all parties to act responsibly, contribute to de-escalation, and show as much restraint as possible,” the statement said.
