US Law Enforcement Arrests Two Leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel

US law enforcement officials have arrested two senior leaders of one of Mexico's most powerful criminal organizations, the Sinaloa Cartel.

The detainees are Ismael Zambada Garcia and Joaquin Guzman Lopez, the son of Joaquín Guzmán, also known as "El Chapo." They are considered among Mexico's most influential drug dealers, overseeing a major cocaine and fentanyl trafficking operation that extends to the United States, Europe, and other countries. They also control drug sales within Mexico.

Both were apprehended in El Paso, Texas. Ismael Zambada Garcia is a co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel, alongside Joaquín Guzmán Loera, known as "El Chapo." The 76-year-old Zambada Garcia faces charges in several federal cases that date back more than twenty years.
