The Investigative Committee on the Tragic Car Accident on the Gyumri-Vanadzor Road: Details
Following the tragic car accident on the Gyumri-Vanadzor road, a criminal case has been initiated. On July 26, 2024, at approximately 1:30 AM, two vehicles—a BMW X3 3.01 and a HONDA FTT 1.3—collided on the 15th kilometer stretch of the Gyumri-Vanadzor highway, in the administrative area of the Jajur community in the Shirak region. As a result of the collision, the driver of the HONDA FTT 1.3 and his wife died on the spot, while their 8-year-old son, who sustained injuries, was transferred to the Gyumri Medical Center, where he also succumbed without regaining consciousness.
The driver of the BMW X3 3.01 fled the scene. His identity has been determined. The Shirak regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia has opened a criminal case under part 3 of Article 342 of the Armenian Criminal Code, and an investigation is underway.
Upon inspection of the accident site, a damaged BMW X3 3.01 was found in the opposing lane, while the overturned HONDA FTT 1.3 was located nearby. Decisions have been made to recognize the deceased family members as victims and to conduct forensic examinations of the bodies.
Instructions have been issued to the relevant police unit to conduct operational investigative measures to locate the driver of the BMW vehicle and present him to the prosecuting authority. The investigation of the criminal case is ongoing.
