For Frequent Public Transport Users, Fares May Be Cheaper, While For Infrequent Users They May Be More Expensive, Avinyan
Currently, we are in the testing phase of the ticketing system for public transport in Yerevan. This was announced by the Mayor of Yerevan, Tigran Avinyan, during a press conference.
“The full transition to a new ticketing system will take place on January 1st. You can say we are currently in the testing phase, analyzing and solving the issues related to the implementation of this ticketing system before its full launch,” he said.
Avinyan noted that during this period, people will have the opportunity to purchase tickets through terminals in various parts of the city. “Soon, we will have the ability to buy tickets directly through an NFC system using a bank card, either purchasing the ticket immediately or making a payment instead. We will also have the option of ticket cards. We want this entire system to be ready, ensuring that everything works and all issues are resolved by January 1st, when the new system will fully launch,” he explained.
Regarding the potential fare increase, Avinyan stated, “The new system has an entirely new logic; for those who use public transport more frequently, the fares may be cheaper, while for infrequent users, they may be more expensive.”
