France to Lodge Complaint with FIFA Due to Argentine Players
The French Football Federation (FFF) is preparing to file a complaint with FIFA over racist chants directed at French national team players by members of the Argentine squad. This was reported by AFP on July 16, citing its sources.
Following Argentina's victory in the Copa America, Argentine players shouted racist slogans towards their French counterparts. A video of the incident widely circulated on social media after the decisive match. The chants included derogatory remarks such as, “Their mother is Nigerian, their father is Cambodian, but in their passport, they are French,” and “They play in France, but they are originally from Angola; they will run well.”
It's noted that these chants were also reportedly heard during the 2022 World Cup, including insulting comments aimed at prominent French player Kylian Mbappé.
In response, the FFF, led by Philippe Diallo, will establish contact with FIFA regarding this matter.
The Copa America final took place in Miami Gardens, Florida, on the night of July 15, where Argentina emerged victorious, winning 1-0 against Colombia after extra time.
