Iran's President Pezeshkian Opposes the 'Zangezur Corridor'
Iran's newly elected president, Masoud Pezeshkian, has expressed opposition to the 'Zangezur Corridor' during a phone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, according to IRNA. While expressing hope that the relationship between the two countries will continue to remain warm and friendly, the Prime Minister added that the relations between Iran and Armenia are based on common interests.
Pezeshkian stated that Armenia occupies an important position among Iran's neighbors and that relations with Armenia are crucial for the Islamic Republic of Iran's foreign policy framework. He emphasized, 'Although the border between Iran and Armenia is short, it is a border of hope and peaceful life, and our principled policy towards you is unwavering.'
Highlighting that the Islamic Republic of Iran respects the territorial integrity of all countries and is against any changes to international borders, the newly elected president declared, 'We support peaceful negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and are ready to assist in this matter.' He also emphasized Iran's commitment to the obligations it has undertaken towards Armenia, as well as a willingness to further develop bilateral relations.
