Details on the Death of Former Gegharkunik Prosecutor
Today, it has been reported that Karen Khachatryan, the former prosecutor of Gegharkunik, was found dead. The newly acquired weapon was identified as a Beretta APX type 9X19 mm caliber pistol, according to shamshyan.com.
Earlier, it was reported that law enforcement officials discovered the body of Karen Khachatryan in the Gegharkunik region. "On July 7 at approximately 00:35, the medical center in Vardenis notified the Vardenis division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs that an ambulance team had been called to a house in the village of Khachakhbyur, where they found a man's body," the website stated.
According to preliminary information, while cleaning the pistol, an accidental shot was fired due to careless handling of the weapon, which resulted in Khachatryan's death. Police and investigators have found the Beretta pistol, which Khachatryan had purchased days earlier.
A criminal case has been initiated in the Vardenis investigative division regarding this incident. An autopsy has been ordered by the investigator.
Karen Khachatryan worked for many years in the system of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Armenia, and his father, Suren Khachatryan, served for many years as the head of the Vardenis Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
