Iran's Presidential Election Voting Extended to Midnight
The Iranian electoral commission has extended the operation of polling stations for the presidential elections for the third time, now until midnight (23:30 Moscow time), according to Press-TV.
It was previously expected that voting would conclude at 18:00 local time. However, due to the influx of individuals wishing to cast their votes, the deadline was extended twice by two hours each time, and now this is the third extension.
During the first round on June 28, polling stations were also open until midnight. The candidates proceeding to the second round are former parliament member Masoud Pezeshkian, who received 42.45% of the votes, and Council of Political Expediency member Said Jalili, who garnered 38.61%. Both candidates represent the two main political movements in Iran. Jalili advocates for conservative interests, while Pezeshkian is a representative of Iranian reformists.
