Erdogan Cannot Mediate Right Now: Peskov Explains Why
The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, cannot mediate in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine at this point, as Kyiv refuses any negotiations. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian President, to reporters.
"At this moment, he truly cannot, as Ukraine is rejecting any negotiations with the Russian Federation, whether with mediators or without," Peskov announced in response to reporters' questions. He added that "Ukraine has decisively rejected Putin's peace plan," which the Russian President had previously announced at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“For this reason, neither Erdogan nor anyone else can mediate at this moment,” clarified the press secretary of the Russian President.
Recall that in the early hours of February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his decision to conduct a special military operation against Ukraine, as the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic and Donetsk People's Republic requested assistance. Military actions in Ukraine are ongoing to this day.
