67 Billion Dram Purchase Documents Not Public, Transparency Not Ensured

The newspaper "Zhoghavorou" reports: "One of the main targets of the revolution, which was aimed at by Nikol Pashinyan in 2018, was corruption and the lack of transparency in state procurement. When he was an opposition MP, Pashinyan demanded transparency in the National Assembly and at every possible podium, complaining that the previous government was a nest of corruption that needed to be dismantled immediately.

The matter is that an excerpt from the Republic of Armenia's Chamber of Control’s conclusions indicates that the authorities have spent 67 billion drams from the budget in just one sector—the construction of roads—without presenting or publishing any supporting documents for these expenses.

This extensive spending involves 362 transactions that will soon be examined in detail, but it is worth noting that the Chamber of Control is one of the few institutions that has not yet turned a blind eye to the abuses of Pashinyan's one-man "democratic" government.

Carefully overlooked documents indeed undermine the revolutionary results that Pashinyan presented at the time.

"Zhoghavorou" attempted to get some answers from several members of the ruling Civil Contract party regarding how it was possible to record such an expenditure without any documentary justification. MP Vahagn Aleksanyan from the Civil Contract stated that this is not his area of expertise, but answers can be expected from the committees on territorial administration, local self-government, agriculture, and environmental issues, or the permanent committees on financial and budgetary issues. Of course, we will try to obtain answers; however, we cannot say whether the results will be promising or not."
