Stoltenberg Responds to Discussions on Possible Changes to Russia's Nuclear Doctrine
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has stated that he does not see an immediate threat from Russia. In an interview with the Japanese Yomiuri newspaper, he responded to discussions in Moscow regarding possible changes to Russia's nuclear doctrine. According to Stoltenberg, the North Atlantic alliance does not see a necessity for such changes.
“There is no immediate threat. NATO does not see a need to revise its nuclear strategy,” Stoltenberg said.
The NATO Secretary General also commented on the potential change of power in the United States, expressing that regardless of the election outcomes, Washington will remain a “strong ally” of NATO. Furthermore, Stoltenberg indicated that China is not an adversary of NATO but poses a challenge to values, interests, and security.
He accused the People's Republic of China of threatening Taiwan and supporting Russia on the issue of Ukraine. Stoltenberg noted that the alliance intends to strengthen relations with Australia, South Korea, and Japan.
