Switzerland secured a 2-0 victory, eliminating the current European champions Italy from the competition. The Swiss team has advanced to the quarter-finals.
The scoring began in the 37th minute when Switzerland's midfielder Remo Freuler found the net from close range after receiving a pass from Ruben Vargas in Italy's penalty area.
Just at the start of the second half, Vargas himself made his mark. In the 46th minute, the forward scored with a beautiful long-range shot, beating Italy's veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The assist came from midfielder Michel Ebisher.
In the 74th minute, forward Gianluca Scamacca had a chance to reduce the deficit, but his shot hit the crossbar.
