Ministry of Education and Science expresses condolences for Lala Mnatsakanyan

The Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia has expressed its condolences to the family, relatives, and friends of Lala Mnatsakanyan, a distinguished artist and professor at the acting and directing department of the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinema. This was reported in an announcement by the ministry.

“The Ministry of Education and Science expresses its condolences to the family, relatives, and friends of the talented actress. Distinguished actress Lala Babkeni Mnatsakanyan was born on October 8, 1957, in Yerevan, into a family of an actress and a mathematician. Her mother, Eliza Gyuleseryan, was an associate professor of theatrical speech, while her father, Babken Mnatsakanyan, was a mathematician and candidate of mathematical sciences, also an associate professor.

Lala Mnatsakanyan studied at Yerevan Secondary School No. 78, and after graduating, she entered the drama and cinema acting department of the Yerevan State Institute of Fine Arts and Theatre. She played numerous roles in theater, cinema, and television, featuring interesting performances in various theaters, including the Yerevan Youth Experimental Theater, the State Dramatic Theater named after Hovhannes Abelian in Vanadzor, the Gabriel Sundukyan Academic Theatre, the Metro Theater, and the Mkrtich Aghababyan Artistic Theater.

She authored 140 screenplay short stories and performed in them as well. Since 1991, she has been teaching theatrical speech at the Yerevan State Institute of Cinema and Theatre and holds the title of professor in the field of theatrical art. She is a co-author of the educational manual “The Art of Delivering Artistic Speech,” which is the first and, to date, the only textbook in Armenian.

Mnatsakanyan is a winner of numerous international festival awards. Awards and honors include being granted the title of Associate Professor in theatrical art and film art in 2004. In 2006, she received the honorary title of Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia, and two years later, in 2008, she was awarded the title of Professor in theatrical art and film art.

Lala Mnatsakanyan was also the wife of painter, stage designer, and Honored Artist of Armenia Ashot Hambardzumyan,” the announcement reads.
